Meet Erica
Hi! I'm Erica Johnson, M.S., founder of Mathwiz Tutoring. My mission is to help middle school students build confidence in math so they can discover they can be successful.
Prior to starting Mathwiz Tutoring, I spent five years teaching middle school math at Thunder Mountain Middle School in Enumclaw. During that time, I earned my Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction, deepening my understanding of how students learn and how to design instruction that meets their individual needs.While I loved teaching in the classroom, I found that many students needed more individualized support than a traditional classroom can provide, which was a large factor inspiring me to create Mathwiz Tutoring, in addition to being able to raise my babies at home.
Today, I specialize exclusively in math grades 6-9, offering structured small-group instruction and limited private coaching. My goal isn't simply to help students finish their homework- it's to strengthen foundational skills, build confidence, and help students become independent, successful math learner.Each session is intentionally designed to include review of previous concepts, targeted instruction, homework support, test preparation, and opportunities to work ahead when appropriate. Parents receive detailed progress updates after every session, and have time to ask questions so they always can know how their child is progressing.
Because I previously taught in the Enumclaw School District, I am familiar with the curriculum and expectations students encounter throughout middle school. My experience allows me to provide instruction that complements what students are learning in school while addressing individual learning gaps.Nothing is more rewarding than watching a student who once said, "I'm just not good at math," gain confidence, participate in class, and begin believing in themselves. I look forward to partnering with your family and helping your child succeed- not just this school year but throughout their middle school math career.
